I have to clarified first that I'm a Weber State Student. I'm from Puerto Rico (That's in Español ) and yes, my first language is Spanish. I'm not an illegal alien! Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and we are born Citizens of the United States of America! So I make this comment as a rightful citizen of this country, with all the freedom of speech that I have. In order to let Mr. Trevor Cave know that he has no clue of what he is talking about and that he is just showing his racism as every other white American that support such legislations.

Second I need to recommend him that he has to take some American History and government classes. I have taken probably like 4 of this classes, and I never get tired of learning what this country is made of.

History proofs that America was created of Illegal Immigrants from Europe and other countries that took by force or by treaties the lands of the Native Americans. So probably, Mr. Trevor Cave is a descendants of the only immigrants that have killed and pushed out the already rightful citizens of the land. I guess he doesn't want to know that, it will probably hurt his feelings. That actually is not as important as recognizing that he lives in a state that was property of Mexico before and when his ancestors got here. His ancestors established themselves in the territory escaping from the USA. I guess the Mexican government at the time didn't have problems with Brigham Young and his pioneers, why do we now?. The Pioneers were kicked out by the United States and were persecuted by the same government. Give thanks to the Utes who actually let your ancestors stay and own the land that we call UTAH!

Let's not forget that wealth of this country was build by immigrants from all countries! Sometimes we think only Caucasians have made America a powerful nation. That is a false statement and has to be erased from people's minds in order to have more justice in our land.

African Americans were slave and they helped the southern states economy grow. They came from different nations of Africa! Hispanics help build the economy of the west, even before whites were there. Cities were established in the west by Spanish conquers. That is way is called California and not Pacific or West Mississippi. New York and other Eastern States had large populations of Puerto Ricans, and Cubans in the 50's helping build what is one of the most important states in the whole country. We didn't even have citizenship or residence at the time. President Franklin Roosevelt had my people working in the worst human conditions to help America Economy grow. We were sent to fight for this country with a low citizen standard. We were put in the front battalions protecting the Caucasian troops. We have defended and helped in every possible thing in this country. For your information, most of the Hispanic Congressmen of the federal government are Puerto Ricans.

Mexicans also have build the economy of the western states. They also are known to be part of our history in many ways. Some of the great people of our country have been Mexicans and Mexican-Americans that have lived their entire lives illegally in this country. For more information please read "Ethnic America: A History"

This country is as great as it is because of all the nations that have come and have shared their knowledge. WHY? Because they believe in freedom and in the ideas of our nation. Something that Mr. Trevor Cave has forgotten.

I think I have made my point in that area. I still have to explain Mr. Trevor Cave that "illegal" is a term that has been constructed and can be changed. Who decides what is legal or illegal? The Congress of course, who has the ability also, Mr. Trevor Cave, to declare that immigration is not an illegal act. Why is it that Caucasian immigration wasn't consider a crime in the time of our founding fathers and now it is? If you could give an answer to this question I will be very pleased.

Mr. Trevor Cave never compare again, I beg you, fugitives from law and immigrants from countries. Cause then your family and you, are descendants of terrible criminals. Something that I don't believe. I don't think you are a criminal, because your ancestors came here looking for a better life. They have given you the great chance of an awesome country and rich opportunities. Be grateful for that! Also, let others have what you have.

Now, that commentary about being a drain on our system doesn't make justice to the billions of dollars that are made by the illegal people helping in the national economy. Working the jobs that you don't want! I'm sure about that, because for some reason you are going to college and not working at McDonald's or a fruit field in California. Just imagine if tomorrow all illegal immigrants are deported ( your dream) and we have nobody to do all of those jobs. How much money will be lost in production, and revenues for our country? I believe Mr. Trevor Cave has no clue of economies in the Unites States either. I will recommend you a little bit of research on how the economy works in this country. I do agree that there is millions of dollars that go to countries in other parts of the world, But, won't you agree that if we could regulate immigration better, and not prohibit entrance to the people that comes to work, immigrants will not send money to their relatives? Those relatives will be here and not receiving help in those countries.

We cannot prohibit great minds to be wasted in other countries. We need to have the best in our country! Let's support immigration and make legal all the great people that are building this country and that we could tax, bringing more revenues to our beautiful land!

Let's not be like other countries who discriminate and persecute those who have been the soul of their nations.

Any person who will like to have more information about the things that I have written can e-mail me at gabrielmisla@gmail.com

I have more evidence and information than Mr. Trevor Cave, who is just making a racist point like the congress people in the nation. All based on ignorance on the subject. Racist laws made by Caucasians that don't even know that Puerto Rico is part of The United States.

Thanks to Mr. Trevor Cave for letting me comment on his article, if you have questions or would like to criticize what I have written, you are completely welcome. I appreciate other people's ideas, even if I don't agree with them.

Thanks to the Signpost for the opportunity given to us, students, to speak our minds.

Illegal immigrants are felons
From the Fence

By Trevor Cave | columnist
March 29, 2006

In the past week, we have seen massive marches against a California bill that would make illegal immigrants become felons. The bill would also make it a crime to give aid to any illegal immigrants.

Those who are in support of illegal immigrants are against the passing of this bill, and are also against laws that would create new and more drastic penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants as well as the building of fences along the U.S.-Mexican border that would prevent immigrants from being able to cross.

As I watch the news and read articles on the Internet about what protestors are claiming, I come across words such as justice and rights when it comes to immigration laws. I would argue a person who is in the U.S. illegally has no “rights” beyond human rights, and should not be rewarded with justice from a country to which they do not rightfully belong.

There seems to be a key word that should be emphasized when discussing the matter that is being discussed in California congress right now, and that word is illegal. Illegal immigrants, not just immigrants. To me, it seems perfectly logical to punish those who provide aid to illegal immigrants. People are punished when they help fugitives or those wanted by the law, so how is being an illegal immigrant and wanted by the law different from being a criminal and wanted by the law? Both criminals and illegal immigrants have broken the law, and, therefore, should be dealt with by the law.

In the past couple of years, I have heard and read about how illegal immigration is a drain on our systems, and that something needs to be done to slow the number of illegal peoples are coming into the U.S. It would appear California is taking the initiative to do something that is blatantly obvious to me: find and deport illegal immigrants, punish those who would help them and create physical obstacles that would prevent illegal immigrants from being able to enter this country. Instead of just talking about addressing the problem, California is actually doing it, and I hope other states along the U.S.-Mexico border follow suit and pass laws similar to that being considered by California’s Congress.

If this bill passes, I do not think it will be the end-all, be-all solution to immigration problems in the U.S., but I think it is a strong and healthy step forward in being assertive with the problem, and recognizing in the congress that there exists a problem. Hopefully, the bill passes in California, and they implement it in such a way that lets people know there will be consequences for helping illegal immigrants.

Kia Ora (Hello) from a blogger down udner in New Zealand. Illegal immigrants should be sent back to to their own country and banned for re-entering for 5 years.

Thanks for your comment Kelvin. I really appreciatte it! I have a different point of view, but I respect yours too. Most of the people that are my friends think the same.

Thanks so much!

Hola Gabriel.
